With buildings built to the highest sustainability standards, incorporating features like green living walls and planted roofs, rain water collections systems, and low carbon modes of energy provision and transport on offer, Science Central will lead by example – offering a truly low carbon living and working environment.
Surroundings will consist of green public spaces and squares, one of which was recently awarded with a CEEQUAL excellence rating for sustainability from the Institution of Civil Engineers. And occupiers will also benefit from a Low Carbon Energy Centre which will offer cost effective heating and electricity.
Newcastle University is investing over £58m on Science Central, which includes a state-of-the-art urban sciences facility, creating a new home for its Institute for Sustainability and Digital Institute
Using new technologies and systems, and working collaboratively with a wide range of industry partners, new and innovative ideas will explore ways in which our everyday lives can be improved, translating research into real-life solutions to global sustainability challenges.
“Science Central really is our opportunity to use the sustainability research from Newcastle University to benefit the region.”
Professor Stephanie Glendinning, Civil Engineering – Newcastle University
